What are a good pair of Heavy bag/sparring gloves?
I am 21, just starting, and 145 lbs , 5'11.
I've looked at gel pad, foam, combo, then straight bag and the ones that have the slip-on sleeve for training and sparring.
Alas I cannot decipher which are appropriate or worth there cost and whether to go with TITLE, EVERLAST, RingSide, or others. please help!
There is a difference in bag glove construction (different density foam) compared to that of training gloves. For bag work, punch mitt and double end bag workouts get a good pair of 12-14 oz. Super bag gloves with the adjustable velcro strap closure. They tend to stay tighter than the elastic wrist closure which stretches when wet. Training gloves are made for contact in sparring and have a layered foam construction for both hand and sparring protection. at 145 lb.s I believe that 14 oz. would be good for you in lace up model. Now, Ringside and Title house all kinds of VG brands other than Everlast. I personally prefer all the Grant gear as # 1. Good luck.
